The wood of Stilo-Archiforo is locaed inside “Parco Naturale Regionale delle Serre”, in the area of the municipality of Serra San Bruno. Actually, it is composed of two different woods which have an extension of 4,704 hectares, which corresponds to more than a quarter of the whole surface of the park. It is a rare example of a sheer wood of ancient origins: it is dominated by a Silver Fir (Abies alba), whose specimens are enormous, circumference 4.70-5.50 meters, and among them it is present the highest European Silver Fir, 55 meters high. According to some people (Giacobbe 1973) it is a variety, while others think it is a subspecie (Brullo et al. 2001): apennina. It is inhabited by wild cats and numerous packs of boars. A megalithic village is present inside the park and it is composed of big granite and quartz rocks, with particular symbols which are located in alignment with astronomical events.
