Vesuvius National Park offers the possibility of following the path Forest Reserve Tirone Alto Vesuvio together with the entrance to the Vesuvian Artistic and Mineralogical Laboratory and to the Museum of the Vesuvian Observatory. The path is bordered by dry stone walls, surrounded by pine groves and holm oak woods and it has a length of about 3.5 Km and the maximum altitude reachable is 600 m. The path allows, after “Piano delle Ginestre”, to cross a part of the Park which alternates wood areas, more closed and shaded, to open ones both dominated by Vesuvius. Vulcanic formations are crossed along the path like lava tunnels, ropy lavas and 3 lava flows belonging to the eruption of 1944 which are colonised by pioneer species such as Stereocaulon vesuvianum.
