Julian Prealps Park – Regional Natural Park of the Julian Prealps

This Regional Natural Park was established in 1996 and covers a little less 38 square miles in the municipalities of Chiusaforte, Lusevera, Moggio Udinese, Resia, Resiutta and Venzone, in the province of Udine.
It mostly mountain landscape includes the highest peaks of the Monte Plauris, Monti Musi and Monte Canin ranges, and areas at lower altitudes in Povici, Resiutta, and in Valle del Torrente Mea in Lusevera.
The park features three different biogeographical areas, Mediterranean, Illyrian and Alpine. Its biodiversity is quite extraordinary and includes around 1200 species and subspecies, and over 60 endemic varieties, like Zoyss’ bellflower, (Campanula zoysii), the Froelich gentian (Gentiana froelichii) and silvery crane’s bill (Geranium argenteum).
There are also many animal species of southern, circummediterranean and eastern origins. All the alpine species are present (roe deers, deers, chamois, ibex and wild boars), mammals include wild cats, several species of mustelids, rodents and insectivores. Bird species include rock partridge (Alectoris graeca), a true symbol of the park.
Trails and biking routes are abundant within the whole park, while guided tours are available also in winter.
