It was founded in 1983 at 700 metres of altitude and on a surface of about 2 hectares; Giardino Botanico di Valbonella is a true open air museum, where the typical environments of Romagna’s Apennines are reproduced, with a wide collection of native species, of which many are rare and endangered.
The botanical garden develops itself around three themed paths for a complex of 12 different environments with about 481 botanical species: the wood; the stream and wet areas; the cliffs, the prairie and bush areas.
Recently, an area has been dedicated to officinal and healing plants and a small butterfly garden has been created.
The wooden construction of the information point hosts a small herbarium and a xyloteque.
