The rose garden ‘La Rosa nel Tempo’ was created by a group of professors of the Istituto Agrario Persolino di Faenza, in the province of Ravenna, in collaboration with the Agricultural College of the city’s university.
With an extension of 8,000 squares metres, it hosts about 500 plants of roses belonging to 100 different varieties, some of them are ancient like Rosa gallica ‘Versicolor’ which dates back to the 12th century. They are organised in order to show the evolution of roses during the centuries: an area is dedicate to European ancient roses, another to the Asian ones, a third zone to the varieties created with the crossings of the two groups, and lastly a fourth one with 150 new varieties of ground-cover plants, raised without irrigation, fertiliser and pruning
