In the historic centre of Fanano, there is a true open-air museum of contemporary sculpture on rock; it is an ancient centre of Frignano, in the Lotta fraction. It is composed of more than 200 works of art realised during Simposio Internazionale di Scultura su Pietra, a festival first organised in 1983 and now biennial, which calls artists from every part of the world in the month of May. It is a permanent contemporary art collection, composed by urban furniture, fountains, elevations on the houses’ facade, which is characterised by its dynamic character and progressive expansion, in addition to the continuity with the tradition of the stonecutters fananesi; as then, it is used local sandstone, in a new harmony with the suggestive naturalistic border and the rustic style of the Apennines.
