More than 100 years ago, in the second half of the XIX century, Marco Felluga’s great-grandfather became a dedicated wine producer. Istria Peninsula was where he started working with Malvasia and Refosco. At the end of the First World War, good luck brought the Felluga family to the other side of the Gulf of Trieste, namely to Grado and then to Friuli. Despite the short distance between Istria and Friuli, the landscape changed radically along with the fortunes of this family of winemakers.
Later on, Marco Felluga decided to more right there, in a place which has always been perfectly suitable for grape cultivation and Collio wine. Marco was assisted by his own professional qualifications and his son Roberto – who’s now a fifth-generation professional and the manager of two prestigious companies in Collio, Gorizia.
Marco Felluga vineyards are, in fact, located in four different areas of the Collio: Farra, San Floriano, Oslavia and Cormòns.

Collio is a particular and special area with low and gentle hills, and a mild climate protected by the Julian Prealps and close to the sea. Each hill features its own microclimate: spring and summer days are usually warm, nights are cool and there is never any big change in these favourable conditions.

Soils are layered with marlstone, sandstones and flysch (“ponca” in Friulian dialect), due to the erosion that occurred about 100 million years ago, in the Eocene Epoch.

This territory is famous not only for its fine vines but also for its fruit production, in particular cherries (Prunus avium). This plant species is a true added value to the territory and can be found mostly in spring and autumn. On the warm days of May, pink-white clouds appear on the hill slopes and then turn into bright and golden globes, eventually threatened by short and humid days in autumn.
