Andrea Campagna Park

This is a large green area in the Barona district, built in 1970 along with the neighbourhood. It was designed by the Municipality of Milan. Originally, it was called “Teramo Barona Park”, but in 2012 it was renamed after Andrea Campagna, a young public security officer, a victim of a terrorist attack.
The initial 25 acres, soon doubled their size, as this area kept on getting bigger and bigger, now bordering with the South Agricultural Park. In this area of Milan, in the very fertile countryside, there are still several farms easily reachable on foot or by bicycle, such as Cascina Battivacco, Boffaloretta and Boffalora.
Given the extension of the park, there are several areas reserved for sports and leisure activities, as well as areas for dogs. People can thus enjoy soccer, five-a-side football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, bowling, and Frisbee. In fact, a great frisbee enthusiast lives in the Barona district – Valentino De Chiara – who actually introduced this sports discipline in Italy in the 1970s. Quite unsurprisingly, the headquarters of the Frisbee National Federation are housed in this very park, along with a dedicated court.
To the north, the park borders with some urban gardens, where 180 enthusiasts grow vegetables, some fruit trees, and a lot of beautiful roses. To the west, there are meadows and groves, where maples, black locusts, birchwood, plantains, hornbeams, elms, red oaks, and Caucasian wingnuts are abundant.
