Lake Ceresio

Also known as Lake Lugano, this is an alpine lake that stretches between the Swiss Ticino Canton, the Province of Varese, and the Province of Como.
It’s undoubtedly of the most beautiful pre-Alpine lakes and, therefore, a popular tourist attraction. From the overlooking hills, visitors can enjoy the beautiful and most serene landscape of the whole area – the perfect destination for peace and relaxation. On the other hand, cultural attractions and exciting excursions are always available around here.
The lake is full of fish. Apart from some protected areas – the mouth of the Cuccio River in the municipality of Porlezza for instance – different types of fishing are permitted almost everywhere.
The protected species are the indigenous bleaks and freshwater crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), which are becoming increasingly rare, due to the strong competition with the Louisiana crawfish (Procambarus clarkii).
