The Lomellina territory features a thorough irrigation system, designed according to a painstaking control of the water flow, which has massively impacted the landscape and its eco-system. The cultivation of rice has certainly played a fundamental role in the shaping of this area, prominently leaving its peculiar traits which are still visible).
Furthermore, the presence of the Via Francigena, with its Lombard and Cluniac Romanesque architecture, makes this area extremely rich also from an artistic and historical point of view.
The eco-museum of Mora Bassa is basically a documentation center about the irrigation system of rice paddies and it is organized along different itineraries. The first one consists of an educational laboratory path for the study of traditional methods of measuring the water.
A second theme winds through the territory of Lomellina, focusing on the rice crops. There are also two more paths: one aimed at the history and artistic heritage of this area, the other, also called “the itinerary of taste”, offers refreshments and themed luncheons in several farmhouses and taverns, thus rediscovering the traditional peasant food.
