This park is in the Gorla district, crossed by the Martesana canal, near the branch of the Naviglio with Cascina Martesana: in 2006, it was dedicated to the Iraqi Martyrs of Freedom.
The 30-acre park was opened in the 1970s and features an amphitheater for concerts and public events, four areas for dogs, and a fenced playground for children.
A lone impressive hornbeam and three empress trees can be seen inside the park. On the Naviglio bank, near the park, it is not uncommon to come across local amateur fishermen.
From there, a 17-mile path reaches the Adda River. It’s actually a pleasant, easy, and shady trail that offers several eye-catching sights and panoramas.
Main tree species:
black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), boxelder maple (Acer negundo), silver maple (Acer saccharinum), mountain maple (Acer pseudoplatanus), curly maple (Acer platanoides), tulip tree (Liriodendron tulipifera), hornbeam white (Carpinus betulus), flowering cherry (Prunus cerasifera “Pissardii”), English oak (Quercus robur), Liquidambar styraciflua, black walnut (Juglans nigra), common elm (Ulmus minor), red oak (Quercus rubra), linden (Tilia spp.).
