Solari Park

This historic city park was born in the 1930s, designed by the architect Enrico Casiraghi who also created the Lambro Park. In 2006, it was dedicated to Don Giussani, the founder of the Communion and Liberation Movement.
The current area it’s where a railway yard, called the “Livestock stopover”, used to be: thanks to a passage under the ramparts, the animals were brought right here and then forwarded to the nearby slaughterhouse.

The park covers over 9.9 acres and is surrounded by elegant buildings where also their own designers (architects Ponti and Portaluppi) live. This public facility seems to stretch its green offshoots towards Via Dezza which features a large central green area with plane trees, catalpas, and cedars.

In the center of Solari Park, there’s a circular fountain where the water flows from a rock formation of the Lambro River Valley. Overlooking the park, there’s the popular Solari swimming pool designed by architect Arrigo Arrighetti in 1963.
The park underwent major redevelopment works in 2004, to improve lighting and CCTV surveillance.

Among the tall trees, visitors we can find Atlas and Deodar cedars, mountain and silver maples, horse-chestnuts, white hornbeams, beeches, magnolias, elms, London plane trees, plum trees, oaks, and poplars. Shrubs mostly feature different varieties of hydrangeas and roses.
There are fenced play areas for children, spaces for dogs, and a sculpture by Kan Yasuda – the “Return door” representing a pistachio.
