Villa Castiglioni Fisogni

Villa Castiglioni is in Tradate, in the province of Varese. It is a wonderful noble estate dating back to 1700, further embellished with several Liberty features. It is surrounded by a vast English park.
The main courtyard is open on one side towards the large English park, while its right side is annexed to the owners’ abode; the bay window built on the ground floor is particularly interesting, consisting of three sides with three mullioned windows: the style is neo-Gothic with a Tudor influence.
The villa belonged to Cesare Castiglioni, a member of Giuseppe Garibaldi’s “Expedition of the Thousand” who also fought in the III War of Independence. He then became a politician and city councillor in Tradate between the late 1800s and early 1900s, as well as a yarn and silk entrepreneur.
The building, with its eclectic look, perfectly represents the taste of the Lombard bourgeoisie of the second half of the XIX century. It is enriched by a large English park and rustic portions which once housed the spinning mill – today, they’re home to the renovated Fisogni Museum. The latter features a large collection of items typically found at gas stations, including car plates, compressors, oil cans, advertising posters, gadgets, games and several works of concept art documenting the evolution of that particular sector from 1892 to 1990.
The Villa and its park are available for weddings, private functions and events.
