Museo del Tartufo (Truffle Museum)
This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)
The first Italian truffle museum is located in San Giovanni d’Asso, inside the town’s XIVcentury castle.
The tour starts from the basement, where the mystery of the truffle is unravelled: according to legend, truffles originated by lightning. Then, there are some sensory experiences aimed at discovering the tuber, through touch, putting your hands in some jars, hearing and listening to the footsteps of a truffle dog or the noise of the digging spade. Visitors can also taste and smell truffles with the so-called “odorama” contraption. Finally, a gigantic truffle can be explored in details, thus revealing its innermost secrets and true nature.
The visit ends at the documentation centre, where educational workshops are also usually held.
