This Museum is located inside the historic Abbey of San Pietro a Moscheta, in the Orecchiella Nature Reserve. It was opened in June 2009, with the aim of documenting the most significant transformations that took place on the Apennine mountains and the relationship between the environment and human interventions.
Through a visual path along the XX century, the Museum shows how the Apennines – with specific geology, fauna and flora – is also an economic and social resource; over time, the landscape of woods, farms and castles was gradually enriched with roads, villas, and villages up to the XIX and XX century. The recent depopulation of the surrounding forests is thoroughly documented as well.
