This establishment features an adjoining quarry and has one of the oldest and largest kilns in the area, dating back to the late 1300s. It was acquired by Tommaso Tobia Poggi in 1919, from the Vanni family. Since then, the production of bricks, shower tiles, basins, oil jars, and garden furnishings all of kinds have massively increased.
“Fornace Poggi Ugo” began exporting terracotta to Germany in 1946, thus spearheading a new market like a true leader in the sector.
Since the 1960s, Belgium, Switzerland, France, England, Austria has also been importing these products, along with the United States, Australia, Japan and many other countries.
In 1982, Ugo’s business was taken care of by her daughters Licia and Liliana: in memory of their father, they named the company after him and went on dedicating themselves to high-quality productions.
The fourth generation, Antonella and Lorenzo Andrei have been running the business for some years now while respecting all the ancient traditions that have made this company a true Italian excellence.
In 2002, a brand-new range of products – the “Design Collection” – was launched, using terracotta for modern and contemporary creations.
To celebrate its 90 years of activity, Poggi Ugo created the “90Modelli per 90Anni” collection in 2009, working with designers and architects to further consolidate the importance of terracotta and its cultural, historical and artistic value.
