Villa Peyron in the Wood of Fontelucente

This villa was erected on the hills of Fiesole, with a privileged view of Florence, and it is famous for its magnificent park which includes the Italian garden and Fontelucente wood which gives its name to this noble abode. The wood is also an important source of water that feeds the park and the small lake.
Since 1998, the park of Villa Peyron has been managed by the Bardini-Peyron Monumental Parks Foundation, which takes care of the protection and the enhancement of this very green area and the garden of Villa Bardini.
THE VILLA AND THE GARDEN
The Villa was presumably built on some Etruscan ruins and, over the centuries, it underwent several renovations leading to its current appearance. Most of those works were done by Angelo Peyron and then by his son Paolo, in the XX century.
The Italian garden is divided into several terraces sloping down towards Florence, arranged with boxwood parterre along the southern axis of the Villa and embellished with ornamental statues; those very Palladian style sculptures actually came from some Venetian villas on the Brenta River, to replace the ones lost during the Second World War.
The first terrace dates back to the time of Angelo Peyron, while other similar interventions were made by his son Paolo in the second half of the XX century.
The luxuriant wood grows around the garden, which was originally closed: once again, it was Paolo Peyron to open a perspective view on the city of Florence.
