Villa Pucci di Granajolo

Villa Pucci di Granajolo is in Castelfiorentino, in the locality of Granaiolo. It was built in the late 1300s on the ruins of an ancient fort; its style is typical of Tuscan rural architecture: a simple facade with windows framed by Serena stone, standing out against a white plastered background.
From the central part of the façade, a sort of a turret rises with a lovely panoramic loggia.
Since 1600, the villa has belonged to the family of the Pucci Marquises.

The villa was severely damaged during the Second World War, but with careful restoration, it has been brought back to its ancient splendour, with sumptuous interiors. In the 1960s, it was the favourite venue for several wonderful parties organized by Marquis Emilio Pucci, the famous innovative designer, and his wife Cristina.

The park was renovated in 1968 by the architect Gae Aulenti and it is an excellent example of integration between ancient and modern styles.
The Italian garden, rebuilt in the early XX century and then destroyed again, was finally replaced by a sequence of lawn steps bordered by sandstone curbs following the very orography of the ground. A flowery English garden was also created on the back of the villa. All around the building, there is the original wooded park, full of fir trees, hackberry trees, cedars, cypresses, pines, holm oaks, and poplars.

Today, the villa belongs to Laudomia Pucci (Emilio’s daughter), who spends her holidays there with her husband and three children; in 2011, she created a private museum which houses her father’s drawings, fabrics and creations, opened once a year on special occasions.
