Villa Bricherasio Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden of Villa Bricherasio is in Saluzzo, in the province of Cuneo.
It is a park of about 3 acres created by the fruit farmer Domenico Montevecchi.
This English-style garden slopes down from the villa reaching the street below and offering several eye-catching glimpses views of the landscape along its winding paths.
Exposed to the east, it enjoys a peculiar microclimate that allows the growth of species that fear the frost. It is divided into three areas: one dedicated to Mediterranean plants, near the house, another reserved to species originating from cold and temperate zones, and finally the patch used for continental climate varieties.
In summer, in the continental area, Gunnera manicata, and Victoria cruziana thrive with enormous leaves, as well as water lilies and Euryale ferox outdoors; other interesting species include Arundo donax, Calamagrostis acutiflora, Carex buchanaii, Festuca cinereal, Panicum virgatum, climbing and shrub roses, camellias and hydrangeas.
In the “alpineto” section there is a rich collection of Crassulaceae.
Among the arboreal plants and shrubs, visitors can admire camphor trees (Cinnamomum camphor), Chinese parasol trees (Firmiana simplex), Kashmir cypresses (Cupressus cashmirianum), many eucalyptus trees from Tasmania and New Zealand, as well as palms, locust trees and elderberries.
