Located in Trivero, in the province of Vercelli, the garden of Villa Ca ‘Gianin was built on behalf of the Zegna family by the landscape architect Pietro Porcinai (1910-1986), the same who carried out several other projects in the area in the 1960s.

For Villa Ca ‘Gianin, the great Florentine landscape architect exploited the natural slopes of the land, creating a large flat area in front of the house; he moved the access road and created a pedestrian loop. With boulders taken from the nearby stream, he created aesthetic effects similar to those of Japanese gardens and he built a tennis court partially embedded in the slope, as well as a swimming pool with essential features, perfectly integrated into the landscape.

Finally, he planted many groups of trees, including birches, beeches and flowering apple trees (Malus sarengetii), ornamental winter and spring flowering shrubs (such as Amelanchier canadensis, Calycanthus praecox, Chaenomeles japonica, Forsythia app., Kolwitzia amabilis, Cotoneaster spp.) and ground covering plants.
