Borelli Palace

Palazzo Borelli is in the historic centre of Demonte. Its construction, on a pre-existing fortified castle, dates back to the early 1600s, with subsequent changes, in particular in the mid-XVIII and mid-XIX centuries.
King Carlo Alberto of Savoy, the King of Sardinia from 1831 to 1849, was the guest of the palace owner, Count Giacinto Borelli. The architecture of the facade is Baroque; the internal rooms have valuable murals and decorated wooden ceilings.
Some rooms are currently occupied by the Civic Library, the “Museum of ancient crafts” and “Spazio Lalla Romano”: a facility dedicated to the famous poet, writer, journalist and painter, born in Demonte (1906-2001).
The park
The building is connected via the “Carlo Alberto’s gallery” to the adjacent park; the latter was built in the XIX century and features four irregularly shaped terraces, decorated with fountains, caves and a greenhouse. In the highest part of the park, there’s a crenellated tower dating back to the mid-XIX century. After a period of neglect, the garden has recently been restored.
