Pio Cesare Winery

Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 by the great-great-grandfather of today’s generation, Cesare Pio. Back then, he was one of the first entrepreneurs to believe in the potential of Barolo, Barbaresco and other wines from Langhe.
For five generations, the wines have been vinified in the ancient and historic cellars in Alba,
the only ones left in the historic centre of the city, crossed and bounded by the ancient Roman walls.

The grapes that will later become high-quality wines come both from the family’s 124-acre vineyard and some historical farmers who have worked for Pio Cesare for many generations.

Pio Cesare own vineyards are located in very prestigious locations both in the Barolo area and in the Barbaresco area, but also in Sinio, Diano d’Alba, and Trezzo Tinella.
The first includes the vineyards of Cascina Ornato and those of Colombaro in Serralunga d’Alba, the Roncaglie vineyard in La Morra, and the Ravera vineyard in Barolo Novello; then, there are the vineyards of Cascina Il Bricco and those of San Stefanetto.

The vineyards prominently stand out on the hills as well-defined geometric structures, delimited by the white and dusty farm roads; peasant traditions have beautifully and wisely modelled the landscape throughout the centuries.

The painstaking care and maintenance to the vineyards allow thorough management of the territory which also prevents its abandonment and dangerous exposure to hydrogeological instability phenomena.
