Locally known as “Navelina orange”, this sweet fruit from the Gulf of Taranto is cultivated in this very area, namely in the municipalities of Castalleneta, Ginosa, Massafra, Palangianello, Palangiano, Statte, and Taranto.
It’s usually a large fruit with an elongated spherical shape, featuring an orange pulp but with yellow skin. It has no seeds and the juiciness of this orange is equivalent to 35% of its total weight. It ripens early, so it can be harvested as early as the end of October and it is sold immediately, without resorting to any chemical treatment.
