Bosco Romanazzi Oasis is in the municipalities of Gioia del Colle and Putignano, in the Province of Bari. This area, which has miraculously survived urbanization, is actually what remains of the typical Apulian landscape.
Due to its rich biodiversity, the WWF established here a Special Protection Area (SPA) in 2007.
The local flora includes Quercus spp., Olea europea, Lotus corniculatus (bird’s-foot trefoil), Coronilla valentina, Urospermum dalechampii (smooth golden fleece), Campanula rapunculus (rampion bellflower), Echium vulgare (viper’s-bugloss) and several orchids.
The fauna features a colony of Falco naumanni (lesser kestrel), a particularly important species, acknowledged by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
