The historic botanical garden of Nardò is located in Salento, next to Acquaviva Castle which is the current Town Hall. Created in the 1800s, right where the original moat of the castle used to be, then filled and partially transformed into an English garden, today it is called “Villa Comunale”, a term often used for public green spaces, particularly in southern Italy.

The garden covers an area of about 4.783 square yards with a small temple in the centre, standing on six columns. This is one of the oldest gardens in the area and it features a collection of native, rare and endemic species from Salento. In recent years, it has undergone important restorations, according to its original layout, and it is open to the public.
