This oasis is in the Municipality of Arbus, in the Province of MedioCampidano. This 1.482-acre area is included in the two Sites of Community Interest of Capo Pecora (SIC ITB040071) and Rio Scivu-Piscinas (SIC ITB040030).
Officially established in 2014, with the aim of preserving this unique natural place, it is currently managed by the WWF.
The landscape develops starting from a coastal strip made of sandy dunes and mostly covered by rich Mediterranean vegetation; it then stretches along a 1.8-mile coastline overlooked by high rocky promontories beaten by the mistral wind.
The local flora includes typical Mediterranean species, such as Juniperus spp. (Juniper), Olea europea var. sylvestris (olive trees), Quercus ilex (holm oak), Spartium junceum (Spanish broom), Phillyrea, and Myrtus communis (myrtle).
The consolidation of the dunes is guaranteed by the spread of the stable Pistacia lentiscus– Juniperus macrocarpa association (Pistacia lentiscus – mastic tree – and Juniperus oxycedrus ssp. Macrocarpa – cade juniper.
Not to mention the important presence of two endemic species, Linaria flava and Anchusa crispa.
The local fauna includes Caretta caretta (loggerhead sea turtles), Testudo hermanni (Hermann’s tortoises) and Corsican red deers.
Among the birds, there are bee-eaters, various passerines and birds of prey such as kestrels, peregrine falcons, and buzzards.
