Vanoi Ecomuseum

The Vanoi Valley, at the south-eastern end of the Province of Trento, is bordered by the Veneto Region on two sides, and hydrographically belongs to the Cismon Basin, where the Vanoi Torrent flows.
Few urban settlements host most of the local residents, as well as some scattered hamlets on the first slopes of the mountains (Ronco), dejection conoids (Caoria), and terraces or orographic shelves (Canal San Bovo, Prade and Zortea).
The heart of the ecomuseum is the Vanoi ethnographic path, promoted by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Natural Park. It is a themed path focused on traditional agriculture and forestry, promoting the cultural landscape of Vanoi and its surrounding areas.
Along its 16-mile route, some fifteen typical rural buildings (“casere”, sawmill, stables, and huts) and other structures connected to the water systems (mills, forges, etc.) have been recently restored.
The remains of the flourishing mining activity that involved the Vanoi area between 1400 and 1940 are still visible in the mines of Pralongo. The Sacred Room is also visible, at the House of Cultures in Zortea. Finally, the permanent exhibition about the Great War on the Lagorai, managed by the Alpine Group of Caoria, offers the results of research, documents, and relics, often organizing conferences with former Austrian Alpine troops to celebrate the peace and the memory of civilian victims during the conflict.
The ecomuseum is completed by “Porta dell’ecomuseo” in Canal San Bovo, “Casa del Vanoia” ethnographic path in Caoria, and the visitor centre in Prà del Madègo, in Valsorta.
