The Path of the Old Trades

The path of the old trades is located between two small municipalities on the slopes of Val di Cembra: Sover and Grauno. The path that connects them is flanked by ancient mills restored by expert local carpenters and is plunged into the wild nature on the banks of the Avisio River. This path offers the perfect chance to experience a piece of local history and re-discover its centuries-old traditions.
It is possible to admire artefacts and factories which, in some cases, remained active until the mid-1990s. For instance, there are some lime kilns and the forges used for processing fabrics and metals.
The vegetation includes some magnificent silver firs (Abies alba) and Norway spruces (Picea abies). During the summer season, it is also possible to taste delicious berries and collect many herbaceous species, also used for medicinal preparations, including yarrow (Achillea millefolium), greater burdock (Arctium lappa), lady’s bedstraw (Gallium verum), yellow sweet clover (Melilotus officinalis), and wild sweet William (Saponaria officinalis).
Visitors should take the path in the village of Sover, between June and September: a time of the year when the colours and the fragrances of the blooms are guaranteed to mesmerize.
The whole path is about 2 and a half-hour long and runs Sover to Molini and Piscine.
WORTH KNOWING
Sover and Grauno have always been good commercial partners and friends. Until 1966, they were connected by a bridge, which then collapsed because of a flood. In 2009, such connection was eventually restored.
