“Giardino Lizza” is on the hills around Todi, between Orvieto and Spoleto, in the province of Perugia. It was recently created, on what was once an ancient wheat field, thanks to Gerardo Lizza, the current owner, who had found his inspiration in a book by the English landscape architect Vita Sackville West.

The ever-growing and evolving garden is, nonetheless, carefully arranged and “themed” on the different plant associations thriving inside it.
One section is dedicated to tree, shrub and perennial species with spring flowering, such as cherry trees (Prunus spp.), peonies (Paeonia spp.), wisteria (Wisteria spp.), lilac (Syringa spp.), and meadowsweets (Spiraea spp.).

A path runs across two fields of olive trees and a large cherry tree (Prunus avium) stands out over the horizon. A large lawn, dominated by lime trees (Tilia spp.), is surrounded by spectacular plants all year round, including flowering apple trees (Malus floribunda), pomegranates (Punica granatum), mock orange trees (Philadelphus spp.) and bulbous species, also including several specimens of iris (Iris spp.).

The whole garden is dotted with beautiful roses, including “Fantin Latour”, “M.me Carrière”, “General Shablikine”, “Le Vesuve”, a specimen of Rosa x odorata “Mutabilis”, and a wonderful Rosa x bracteata “Mermaid” covering a roof of tiles. There are also shrubs and perennial species typical of the Mediterranean scrub, such as osmanthus (Osmanthus spp.), silverberry (Eleagnus spp.), several sweetboxes (Sarcococca), and honeysuckles (Lonicera spp.), with very fragrant blooms.

Another area is entirely dedicated to purple shaded plants, including ornamental apple trees (Malus spp.), ornamental vines (Vitis spp.), and climbing roses.
