The Garden of the Hundred Roses

The Garden of the Hundred Roses is located in Budino (near Foligno PG), in the very heart of Umbria. It belongs to Andrea Emiliani, agronomist and gardener – Umbrian by adoption – who’s been fascinated by plants since his childhood, mainly thanks to his mother.
This is basically a garden of roses: on 3.470 square yards, there are about 650 types of flowers including 216 cultivars of English Roses by David Austin – it’s most undoubtedly one of the largest rose collections in the world. There are also 110 varieties of iris (by Augusto Bianco), several Hemerocallis (by Italo Vacco), 200 peonies, Delphinium, Vitex agnus castus, and, among the trees, a Stranvaesia davidiana, two Melia azedarach and a Prunus cerasus “Progressifolia” – an ancient cultivar first classified by Gallesio, which blooms again in August.
