Lozon Lake Nature Reserve

The Lozon pond can be found on a glacial terrace at 4.987 ft above sea level; it covers an area of 9.8 acres. This small body of water is almost entirely covered by a single clod of peat, about 5-ft thick, which floats on the water and causes acidification in the central part of the lake.
The site welcomes a rich zooplankton population, many invertebrates, common frogs and toads.
BOTANICAL CHARACTERISTICS
This is probably the most interesting humid environment in Valle d’Aosta in terms of vegetation and floristic richness; visitors can easily spot Carex appropinquata, Utricularia australis, and Ulmus minor.
Lo stagno di Lozon è posto su un terrazzo glaciale a 1.520 metri di altitudine e si estende su una superficie di 4 ettari.
