Albergo Diffuso Sauris

Sauris is the northernmost municipality of Friuli Venezia Giulia and houses the Albergo Diffuso Sauris: ancient peasant houses partly turned into a hotel, furnished with exquisite taste, immersed in silence and overlooking a most stirring landscape.
The structure consists of a central body, called the Borgo, in the hamlet of Sauris di Sopra, with a dozen apartments overlooking the main square, and the hotel reception. The remaining apartments are scattered throughout the various hamlets of the Municipality of Sauris.
The Sauran Carnival (“Zahrar Voschhankh”) takes place every year, and it’s one of the oldest and most traditional events, culminating with the “Night of the Lanterns”. It usually attracts larger and larger numbers of visitors. It’s basically a fancy-dress party. Some masked street performers gather in the village square, then the characters of Rolar and Kheirar prepare the audience to welcome the arrival of other masked actors. Rolar wears dark robes, his face is covered in soot, while Kheirar uses a wooden mask and carries a large broom.
The festival takes place throughout the village with masked performers dancing in the streets, then entering the woods following a path illuminated by lanterns.
