Ama Castle

Ama Castle is a small village on the hills of Gaiole, in Chianti, 1.640 ft above sea level, where the vineyards grow along with olive groves and intersect with the forest. For over thirty years, it has been an excellent winemaking estate managed by the two owners Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti.

Since 2000, the winery has become a point of reference also for the artistic community, as, at some point, the two owners became quite passionate about art and decided to integrate the aesthetic experience of an exhibition into the world of winemaking. Supported by Galleria Continua in San Gimignano, Lorenza and Marco have designed and offered a special place where to exhibit exclusive works of art to several artists: year after year, they’re regularly invited to create and put their masterpieces on display within the estate.

The first to take this unique opportunity was Michelangelo Pistoletto, who contributed to enrich this place and its most iconic features with his artistic genius. Soon, many others joined him, thus embedding their works of arts with the very wine cellars, the old chapels, the farmhouses, and the old cistern where, for example, water meets the pink marble body of a kneeling girl by Louise Bourgeois. On display, there are also several works of Daniel Buren, Anish Kapoor, “the angels at the table” by Ilya & Emilia Kabakov, the African artist Pascale Marthine Tayou, and Hiroshi Sugimoto.

In addition to art guided tours and wine tasting experiences, Lorenza and Marco have recently expanded opened “Ristoro di Ama”, a cosy restaurant offering typical Tuscan menus.
