Amadriade Garden / Bartoli Garden

Bartoli Garden (also known as “Giardino Amadriade”) is in Ficulle, in the province of Terni. It was built by Gigliola Casaccia, respecting the natural evolution of the landscape – over the seasons and the years – and the spontaneous evolution of plant species.
The garden features a stony, poor soil, with complex texture thanks to the underlying sandstone layer and the good exposure to sunlight; the whole green area is now perfectly integrated with the surrounding landscape: woods and valleys appear as the perfect background “garden”.
In the upper area, near the main residence building, there is the only “formal” part of the garden created as a “Garden of the Simple” (“Il Giardino dei Semplici”), reserved for aromatic and medicinal plants.
In the other portions the garden, there are perennial, seasonal species and flowering shrubs which require very little maintenance and can spontaneously naturally grow and develop.
In the southern area of the garden, there’s a small pond which conveys a remarkable atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
