André Heller Foundation Botanical Garden

This garden was built in 1910, by the Czech doctor Artur Hruska who had recently moved to Gardone Riviera, seeking its mild and pleasant climate all year round.

It’s been a property of Andrè Heller since 1988 – this Austrian artist has recently restructured the whole garden, including international plant species, sculptures and contemporary works of art by Keith Haring, Roy Lichtenstein, Mimmo Paladino, and Erwin Novak. The garden has also been decorated with walkways, exquisite furnishing details, benches and walls, thoroughly organized within a mesmerizing sightseeing experience for the visitors. The latter can thus enjoy art, nature and exotic atmospheres like those of China and Tibet.
An alpine valley has been created in the centre of the garden, with rocky patches for pine trees, gorges, cliffs, three waterfalls, plenty of Nordic trees and the astonishing Dolomites in the background.

There are also some pools with water lilies and lotus flowers, inhabited by trout and carp, Zen-inspired water games, quaint waterfalls, and jets of water originating from bronze figures.

BOTANICAL COLLECTIONS

Each species has been carefully inserted into its very own perfectly recreated natural habitat.
There are, in particular, several Japanese cedars (Cryptomeria Japonica), ferns (Osmunda regalis), bamboos (Bambusa spp.), cowslips (Primula obconica), and succulent plants.
