Appidè Farm

Masseria Appidè (“Masseria” means “a large farm”) is an XVIII century residence in Corigliano d’Otranto, in the heart of the Salento hinterland. The term “Appidè” comes from that of a particular variety of wild pear called “appidés” by the ancient Greek populations – this very pear grows abundant and spontaneously within the Masseria.
Born as a defensive watchtower, the Castle of Corigliano d’Otranto was later purchased by the Barons Comi di Martano, who transformed it into their private summer residence.
It then became a prestigious tourist resort, when the stables, the service buildings and the old warehouses were transformed into beautiful rooms and halls, featuring star and barrel ceilings.
The garden, flanked by a stone colonnade, is made of a parterre of geometric boxwood flower beds, shaded by some Magnolia grandiflora and other beautiful trees.
