Baggio Park

Baggio was an ancient village on the outskirts of Milan; this park is in its central area and is some 7.5 acre-wide. In ancient times, the Olivetani Monastery stood here between the XIII century and 1777, when it was eventually closed under the Austrian rule.
A farmhouse – “Cascina monastero” – replaced the original building and was eventually removed in the middle of the last century, when the municipality acquired this stretch of land; after some major restorations, the headquarters of the Municipal Police and the local council were thus built. In 1964, the surrounding green area was re-evaluated as a public park.

Among the plant species, there is an ancient mulberry tree, originally planted when the farm-house used to breed silkworms, European nettle trees, poplars, cedars, red oaks, black pines, elms, horse chestnuts, beeches, hornbeams, Japanese sophora, locust trees, and field maples.

There is a children’s play area, a space for dogs, a basketball and volleyball court.
