Botanical Garden of the University of Catania – Cacti and Succulent Plants Collection
This post is also available in: Italiano (Italian)
The collection of succulent plants has been part of the garden since its establishment in 1858; it hosts about 2000 species, mainly cacti, and members of the euphorbiaceae and aizoaceae families that can grow outdoors thanks to the mild climate.
There are also some wondrous specimens of Cereus, Opuntia, and Euphorbia.
There are also some specimens, and several decades-old Echinocactus grusonii. In the greenhouse, there are smaller plants, belonging to the Mammillaria, Lobivia, and Agave victoriae-reginae genera, as well as plants of the Lithops and Gibbaeum genera.
