Callori Palace

Palazzo Callori sits on one of the highest hills of Monferrato, in Vignale Monferrato, an ancient medieval village. It can be accessed through a garden with some centuries-old trees including a Magnolia grandiflora, and a large Cedrus libani; an imposing double flight of steps leads inside the palace whose central hall features a frescoed ceiling with the coat of arms of the Calloris.
Built in the XV century, on medieval foundations, the building was restored and enlarged during the XVIII century. Today, it looks like an imposing brick and tuff structure, with two buildings joined by a staircase on the facade, ancient tuff cellars and a chapel dedicated to Saint Giovanni Bosco.
Inside the palace, there are many rooms and halls allegedly decorated by the famous architect Filippo Juvarra or by his students; in particular, the central hall features a frescoed ceiling with the coats of arms of the Calloris, who originated in Asti and moved to Vignale between 1094 and 1312.
Since 1976, the property has belonged to the Piedmont Region, which has thoroughly restored the building; since 1978, it has housed the “Regional Enoteca of Monferrato” and it is used as an elegant venue for conferences, seminars and ceremonies.
The ancient tuff cellars of the building are currently used to store some fine wines and grappa.
The adjacent chapel, once dedicated to Saint Giovanni Bosco, now houses a small winery.
