Cervere Leek

Cervere leek is grown in soils made of silt, fine sand and limestone, in an area exposed to optimal but not direct sunlight, and a constant breeze. This vegetable grows long and tender, with a very content of low lignin and cellulose; it’s sweet, quite palatable and highly digestible; moreover, it is not prone to fungal diseases, so it doesn’t require any particular chemical booster or additive.

Leeks are generally appreciated for their medicinal, tonic, nervine, diuretic, laxative, and antiseptic properties; they’re also recommended for treating dyspepsia, anaemia, rheumatism, arthritis, gout, urinary affections, obesity, haemorrhoids, sores, and insect bites. Cosmetic products often feature leeks to improve and guarantee skin and face freshness.

Every year, on the second Sunday of November, the village of Cervere promotes the local leek with a dedicated festival. The latter features two main events: the leek market, the very best of the local production, and the gastronomic review, with tasting stations serving leek-based dishes.
