Eastern Murge Nature Reserve

The Western Murge Nature Reserve, owned by the State Property, stretches over some 1.811 acres in the territories of Martina Franca and Massafra. The reserve environment is typical of the Murgia Plateau with outcropping limestone formations and rocky soils.
The vegetation mostly made of Macedonian oaks (Quercus trojana), and the most representative species of the typical Mediterranean scrub.
The reserve is also home to wild boars, foxes, hedgehogs, stone martens and hares.
Among the birds, there are robins, golden orioles, goldfinches, and hoopoes
