Ecomuseum of Straw and Farming Tradition

Crosara is a hamlet on the hills in the Municipality of Marostica – a place traditionally dedicated to terrace cultivation with dry stone walls. Over time, this type of soil has proved excellent for growing the type of wheat most suitable for straw. Its cultivation started as early as 1700.
Thus, the long tradition of straw processing and production of several types of artefacts (including hats and bags) is still extremely popular in this area.

This ecomuseum was therefore dedicated to the celebration of such an ancient tradition, covering all the aspects of rural life as well, while thriving to preserve the historical and cultural heritage among the new generations.

In the two rooms on the first floor, there’s the permanent section covering straw processing, from wheat sowing to skilful craftsmanship of the local farmers for the production of artefacts and different types of goods.

The rooms on the second floor will soon host exhibitions about several aspects of the rural traditions (e.g.: the production of fodder, milk, cheese, cherries, chestnuts, etc.), and a reconstruction of rural life environments.
