In the area called Piano di Castello, facing south, there is one of the most important landmarks of the city, where excavations have brought to light artifacts dating from the Etruscan to the medieval period.
The Park, which covers an area on the hill of the ancient Acropolis and is delimited by the Medici Fortress and the Etruscan walls, is the green lung of the city: there is a dense grassy carpet and it is possible to relax among the beautiful trees and several Mediterranean plants.
The people from Volterra, as well as any other visitors, usually favor it as the perfect place for leisurely strolls, relaxation, sports activities, and picnics, sheltered by the majestic walls of the adjacent Fortress.
