Foppe di Trezzo Oasis

The WWF Le Foppe Oasis, in the Adda Nord Park, is a natural environment featuring some small ponds, clearings and wooded areas.
It has great flower biodiversity. Wetlands are home to the typical vegetation, such as sedges (Carex spp.), rushes (Juncus spp.), typhas (Typha spp.), water lilies (Iris spp.), common duckweed (Lemna minor), Chinese silver grass, marsh seedbox (Ludwigia palustris), floating ferns (Salvinia natans), and bladderwort (Utricularia australis).
The tree vegetation is mainly made of by black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia), white willows (Salix alba), black poplars (Populus nigra), aspens (Populus tremula), and sweet cherry trees (Prunus avium).
In the shrubs, there is dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), goat willow (Salix caprea), alder buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula), blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), common hazel (Corylus avellana), shrub verbenas (Lantana spp.), European spindle (Euonymus europaeus), elmleaf blackberry (Rubus ulmifolius), and many roses (Rosa spp.).
The herbaceous vegetation is represented by myrtle (Vinca minor), Solomon’s seal (Polygonatum multiflorum), and Italian arum (Arum italicum). Several specimens of a white-flowered orchid, the narrow-leaved helleborine (Cephalanthera longifolia), are also present.
Fauna includes many animal species such as butterflies, dragonflies and damselflies. There are also sparrow hawks and nocturnal birds such as barn owls. There are many nesting woodpeckers and just as many water birds.
Amphibian species include the common toad, green frogs, Italian frogs, agile frogs and newts. Among the reptiles, there are green whip snakes, ringed snakes, and Western green lizards.
Some ponds are inhabited by American marsh turtles.
The mammals in the oasis are mostly small rodents like least weasels, beech martens, foxes, badger, and European hedgehogs.
