Fosso del Ronchetto Oasis

Fosso del Ronchetto Oasis covers some 18.5 acres of broad-leaved and holly tree forest.
The latter features, in particular, black locusts (Robinia pseudoacacia), English oaks (Quercus robur), chestnut trees (Castanea sativa), sweet cherry trees (Prunus avium), hornbeams (Carpinus betulus), field elms (Ulmus minor), sycamore maples (Acer pseudoplatanus), common oaks (Quercus petraea), birches (Betula spp.), Elders (Sambucus nigra), common hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), common dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), common hazel (Corylus avellana), European spindle (Euonymus europaeus), goat willows (Salix caprea), buckthorn (Rhamnus frangula), and blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
The undergrowth on the shadier and humid slopes hosts lilies of the valley (Convallaria majalis), lesser celandine (Ranunculus ficaria), anemones (Anemone spp.), periwinkles (Vinca spp.), and rare wild daffodils (Narcissus spp.).
The natural environment is enriched by patches of wetland fed by rainwater where several frog species (European, Agile, Green, etc.), crested and spotted newts are abundant. Fauna includes great spotted woodpeckers, European green woodpeckers, tawny owls, tits, and short-toed treecreepers. Mammal species include dormice, moles, wild rabbits, hares, foxes, hedgehogs and water voles.
