Ravino Gardens are a “tropical-mediterraneo” park collecting the widest and most varied collections of succulent plants of Europe. It is located at Forio d’Ischia, the collection of plants is constantly enriched by new species from all over the world, thanks to the passion of the naturalist Giuseppe D’Ambra, who was passionate about succulent plants.
The gardens, which have been opened to the public from 2005, have an extension of about 6000 mq. and contain 5000 specimens, which also include bonsais, fruit-aromatic-officinal plants; in addition, there are 200 specimens and among them there are Cycadeae, palms and Musaceae. The visit to the gardens is organised by paths, without architectural barriers, passing between flowerbeds bordered by “parracine”, the traditional dry walls in local green tuff, which was used also to build the planters containing different species of Sempervivum and Sedum. There is also a Wollemia nobilis, a conifer discovered only in 1994. Many of the plants are catalogued in the official list of the International Community and in the one for endangered species to preserve.
