The caves of Pertosa are located in the municipality by the same name in the province of Salerno, under the northern part of the Alburni mountain chain. Their birth is ascribed to the tectonic movements, the gravity and the water action, which has dug for centuries the rock. The entrance of these caves is located at 263 m above the sea level. Their development is so extensive that we have not yet mapped them completely. Three thousand meters of cave tunnels suspended between water and earth have been estimated and the tourists are able to walk on the paths till the underground Negro river.
