Excerpt from: “Gardens of Veneto Villas”, by Camilla Zanarotti, Silvana Editoriale.

The gardens, which cover an area of approximately 4.5 hectares on the hillside, are a striking example of the late nineteenth-century landscape style. In 1865, Alessandro Rossi commissioned their design from the brilliant architect Antonio Caregaro Negrin, who interpreted the trust of his patron in industrious work aimed at prosperity and social harmony.

The villa and the gardens themselves continue to be reminiscent of a golden age, which is reflected by the architect in the Pompeian style apparent in the garden’s buildings and artefacts. This is the case with the small temple, which is partly underground; from the outside, it has the appearance of a ruin, but it is decorated inside in a neo-Pompeian style with glass walls that form a magical aquarium fed by the waters of the gardens and home to swimming goldfish.

Narrow paths gently wind down the slope, intersecting with the many streams, waterfalls and water features that flow into the large lake below. Its banks are dotted with the aerial roots of the majestic Taxodium disticum.
The wealth of plant species is remarkable, including magnolias, horse chestnuts, groves of yew trees and an imposing Himalayan pine.
