I pizzi bianchi

They are in the municipality of Serrara Fontana, a fraction of Noia, and it is possible to reach them through an old mule track following a path without signals. They are an exhibition of nature art and are composed of white tuff “menhir”  which exit from the soil and look like pinnacles of a cathedral . The “Pizzi di Don Andrea” are the result of the claying of pyro clasts obtained through the continuous erosive action of winds and rainfalls and their impact on thousands-years old trachyte rocks caused the shaping of their form. There are multiple environments on multi-levels with caves and natural gorges which are not always visitable. The surrounding area is interesting too: a hill, ones covered by vine yards, is now bedecked with green Mediterranean herbs, signs of shepherds and huge herds of sheep and goats, an oak wood overhanging on a ravine more than a hundred meters high, which was created by the flowing of the waters of Sorgente of Olmitello. The vegetation is typical of the Mediterranean scrub: broom trees, lentiscos (Pistacia lentiscus), Ferula communis, sea fennels (Crithmum maritimum), Acacia spp.. However, it is possible to find also bare areas with some agaves. It is possible to observe the ruins of an ancient armoury while walking on the decline which leads to the islet of S. Angelo. On your path you will also cross an old fishermen’s village to get to Fumarole, where it is possible to cook potatoes and eggs under the sand, since it has a temperature of 100°C.
