Industrial Memories Park and Vettabbia Park

Also known as “ex-OM” (“former OM”) in the Ripamonti district, this public area stands on the very area previously occupied by the company OM and actually encompasses three parks: “Parco delle memorie industriali” (Industrial Memories Park), Parco Vettabbia (Vettabbia Park), and Parco della Cultura (Culture Park) on a total of 40 acres. The latter, though, has still got to be created.
This area was built in 2004, with a portion intended for residential use (Giovanni Spadolini district), with towering buildings designed by architect Fuksas and the courtyards by architect Valentino Benati. As a legacy from its glorious, industrial past, the area still features the original gantry crane which connected the OM workshops, which is now plunged into a large green area around the lawn, without trees – a massive and quite powerful sight which manages to blend with avenues, green slopes and a children playground.
The tree-lined portion of the park, on the other hand, is found going towards Parco della Vettabbia; the latter was named after the canal that runs through it and whose banks poplars, ailanthus, empress trees, horse-chestnuts, sophoras, cypress poplars, English oaks, beeches, nettle trees, and maples grow abundantly.
